Dear Parents, Caretakers, and Families,

These are historic and uncertain times that our nation is facing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. We are being called to adjust and rearrange our lifestyles to keep ourselves, our families, and our communities healthy and safe. As this continues to unfold, The Positivity Project team is working hard to ensure that you have every opportunity to provide your child(ren) with high-quality character strength instruction that we believe is crucial to empowering us to overcome this challenging period.

We know character strengths aren’t about ignoring the negative. Instead, they help us overcome life’s inevitable adversities. For example, you can’t be brave without first feeling fear; you can’t show perseverance without first wanting to quit; you can’t show self-control without first being tempted to do something you know you shouldn’t.

To overcome this uncertain and anxious time we’ll need to tap into our character strengths and positive relationships now more than ever. We’ll need creativity, perseverance, gratitude, love, humor…and so much more. And, while we’re in this new experience of social distancing, we’ll need to tap into the #OtherPeopleMatter Mindset with our loved ones — whether we’re living with them or not. We’ll need to be present and give others our attention, support others when they struggle, and identify & appreciate the good in others. It will be tough, but so are we. We’re all in this together — and we will get through it together.

So, here’s how we can help you:

  • If you have a child at a P2 school – We are working with your school leadership on P2 Partner School Distance Learning Plan. Please reach out to them directly and they will get you set up so that you can supplement that learning at home.
  • If your child is not at a P2 school – We have free supplemental resources on our website that will help as you move towards a parent-supported education model while schools are closed. Our Character Cards (1-page character strength overviews), book list, and “weekly slides” blog posts (with real-life character strength examples) will help to provide some depth to your discussions at home on character education. Additionally, feel free to invite your child’s teachers or school administrators to sign up for our free 7-day trial where they will be able to access our resources and see how we would fit into their instruction.  Educators can sign up here: https://posproject.org/access-p2-resources/
  •  Are you looking to learn more about us?  Check out our recent segment on ABC’s The View to see what we are all about!  And, don’t forget to like and follow us on social media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Youtube.

In our recent segment on ABC’s The View, we discussed how making children aware that every one of them has all 24 character strengths, provides the foundation for genuine self-confidence grounded in self-awareness. As your child learns about character strengths such as bravery, perseverance, optimism, and gratitude, you will find that what emerges is incredibly important: a common vocabulary in your home to describe the good in people — and the strengths of character that empower us to overcome life’s inevitable adversities.

We will continue to do what we can to support you in any way we can — we are all in this together.
