Exciting P2 Updates for 2018-19
By Jeff BryanFor the 2018-19 school year, we have a lot of exciting things on the horizon to help our Partner Schools better implement The Positivity Project – and build an even more positive school culture. This includes new training opportunities, updated and differentiated strategy Playbooks, and refreshed and further differentiated resources.
We’re sharing this information because it’s important. The way we achieve our mission – to empower our youth to build positive relationships – is by equipping our Partner Schools with the training, strategy, and resources they need to teach students to recognize positive psychology’s 24 character strengths in themselves and others.
1. Training
We have two important follow-on courses available for only Partner Schools who have already completed one year of the P2: P2 200 Positive School Culture and P2 250 Positive Leadership for Administrators. For a full list of training opportunities, please go to our website’s Events Page.
We are also in the process of editing a P2 100 Initial Implementation Video, whose purpose is to train a Partner School’s entire staff in 2 hours. It will feature 45 minutes of P2 president & co-founder Mike Erwin directly teaching positive psychology, character strengths, and the importance of relationships. A Partner School principal and P2 Leader will be able to lead the training by facilitating discussions at designated points throughout the video. This training video will be available only to our Partner Schools. We are aiming for a late-April release and will notify our Partner Schools as soon as it’s available.
2. Strategy
We will have three P2 Strategy Playbooks available for the 2018-19 school year. One each for elementary, middle, and high schools. We’re creating these Playbooks by listening to our Partner Schools, learning about their best practices – and then producing a coherent strategy to help schools most effectively implement the P2. These Playbooks will be available in the summer of 2018.
3. Resources
This year, we provided three sets of Weekly Slide Presentations: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Next year, we will provide Weekly Slide Presentations for every single grade from K-8, and one set of slides for grades 9-12. This means that students will have new videos and exercises – and that they’ll be differentiated even more appropriately. Also, this year, to guarantee everyone had access, we made the slides publicly available. In 2018-19, our slides will be private – available only to our Partner Schools. To ensure an entire Partner School staff has access, we will work closely with each school’s P2 Leader. These resources will be available in the summer of 2018.
We are humbled by the incredible work occurring every day in hundreds of Partner Schools nationwide. These partnerships couldn’t come at a more important time for our youth – and for our nation. In today’s rapidly changing world, character strengths – and a focus on relationships – must be intentionally cultivated from an early age. We’re grateful for the work our Partner Schools do to build the citizens and leaders that our communities and country deserve.
