Empowering Student Leaders Through Positivity at Daniels Run

As a Positivity Project Green Shield School, Daniels Run Elementary is helping to shape future leaders who spread positivity throughout the school and community. Students in grades 4-6 have the opportunity to join the Positivity Project Kid Crew through an application process. The group of over 80 students meets regularly to plan and implement initiatives that promote positivity, school spirit, character strengths, and community outreach.
The Power of Committees
The Kid Crew operates through student-led committees: Public Relations, Fundraising & Outreach, Board & Beautification, and Mega Morning Meeting Planning. Each committee is responsible for selected projects and works collaboratively to complete these projects from start to finish. The committees are truly student-driven!
The Kid Crew makes great efforts to improve our school and promote the Positivity Project. The student body hears about the character strength each day on the morning news show and participates in monthly spirit days, all chosen and promoted by the Kid Crew.
School-Wide Celebrations That Shine
This year, the Kid Crew has held two school-wide Mega Morning Meeting assemblies where the whole school comes together to celebrate the character strengths of the quarter. The Kid Crew writes the script, selects the greetings and activities, and runs the whole show! Winter weather has not stopped them!
They also created the first virtual Mega Morning Meeting, which was shared with the whole school this year. As new and exciting ways emerge to promote the Positivity Project, the Kid Crew is ready for any task!
Making a Difference Beyond the Classroom
Beyond the school walls, the Kid Crew is actively involved in community service projects such as bake sales, coin drives, and coat drives to support local and child-focused organizations. Students research and select organizations that they wish to support in the community and host fundraisers—again, all student-organized and run!
By promoting character strengths and fostering a welcoming school environment, the Kid Crew plays a vital role in making Daniels Run a great place for all students.
